Overview
Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport sits in the Bao'an district of Shenzhen, Guangdong province, roughly 32 kilometres from the city centre. Serving one of China's most economically dynamic cities, it functions as a primary international and domestic gateway for the Pearl River Delta region. The airport opened in 1991, replacing earlier limited facilities as Shenzhen's rapid urban expansion demanded a full-scale aviation hub.
Terminals & Runways
The airport operates a single large integrated terminal complex, dominated by the striking Terminal 3 designed by Studio Fuksas, which opened in 2013 and handles the majority of traffic. Two parallel runways oriented roughly east–west support high-frequency operations. The airport runs on a 24-hour basis, and infrastructure expansion plans have been proposed to accommodate continued growth in the region.
Airlines
Shenzhen Airlines uses the airport as its primary hub, while China Southern and other major Chinese carriers maintain significant operations here. Several low-cost and regional Chinese airlines operate focus-city services. International connectivity is provided by a range of Asian carriers and select long-haul operators, reflecting Shenzhen's global commercial importance.
