Uni Air

Uni Air is a Taiwanese scheduled airline whose roots date to 1988, when Makung Airlines began operations. The carrier adopted the Uni Air identity in 1996 following investment by the EVA Air group and later absorbed Great China Airlines and Taiwan Airways. It operates as an EVA Air affiliate while maintaining its own brand, route network and airline codes, including the IATA designation B7.

Taipei is Uni Air’s primary hub and busiest departure point, with Kaohsiung and Taichung also supporting substantial schedules. The airline is especially important on Taiwanese domestic services, including links to outlying islands, while its international and cross-strait network reaches mainland Chinese cities and Ho Chi Minh City. It serves 19 destinations across three countries through 64 routes, with Fuzhou and Nanjing among its other busiest departure cities.

Aircraft associated with Uni Air services and route records include the Airbus A320 and A330-200, Boeing 737 variants, Boeing 747-400 Combi and McDonnell Douglas MD-90. Aircraft deployment can vary by route, operating period and cooperation within the wider EVA Air group. Service is generally configured for short- and medium-haul flying, with cabin products depending on the aircraft and market rather than a single uniform experience throughout the network.

Uni Air is not independently listed as a member of a global airline alliance, although its relationship with EVA Air connects it to a Star Alliance carrier. Its loyalty programme is EVA Air’s Infinity MileageLands, through which eligible passengers can earn or redeem miles subject to the fare class and published programme rules. Travellers should confirm mileage eligibility before purchasing, particularly for promotional fares, codeshares or flights operated by another carrier.

Uni Air’s main strength is its coverage of Taiwan’s domestic and regional markets, particularly routes that connect the principal cities with offshore communities. Taipei, Kaohsiung and Taichung provide useful connecting points for travellers continuing elsewhere in the network. A practical challenge is that schedules on thinner domestic routes can be limited, while weather can disrupt island services, so passengers with onward connections should allow sufficient time and monitor operating updates.
