Shenzhen Airlines

Shenzhen Airlines was founded in 1992 and began operations the following year. Headquartered in Shenzhen, Guangdong, it has developed from a regional operator into a major scheduled airline within China. Air China is its controlling shareholder, giving the carrier close commercial and operational ties to one of the country’s largest airline groups while retaining the Shenzhen Airlines name and identity.

Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport is the airline’s primary hub and the center of its network. Beijing, Guangzhou, Chengdu and Kunming are also important departure points. Shenzhen Airlines operates 574 routes serving 76 destinations across 6 countries, with the network weighted heavily toward domestic Chinese cities and supplemented by selected international and regional services.

Present-day operations are centered primarily on Airbus A320-family and Boeing 737 aircraft, including A319, A320, A321, 737-800 and 737-900 variants. Aircraft recorded across its operations also include Airbus A330 and older widebody or legacy types such as the A340, Boeing 747, 757 and 767 families. Cabin products vary by aircraft, but economy and business class are the principal service classes.

Shenzhen Airlines joined Star Alliance in 2012, extending its connectivity through partner airlines and coordinated benefits for eligible frequent flyers. Its loyalty programme is PhoenixMiles, shared with Air China and several affiliated carriers. Members can earn and redeem mileage across participating airlines, while qualifying elite members may receive additional airport and baggage privileges subject to fare, route and status rules.

A major strength is the breadth of its domestic network, particularly for journeys involving Shenzhen and other large Chinese commercial centers. Star Alliance participation also supports onward connections beyond its own routes. The principal challenge for international travellers is that aircraft, cabin features and English-language service can vary by route, so checking the operating aircraft and fare conditions before booking is worthwhile.
