About Chengdu Airlines

Chengdu Airlines is a scheduled Chinese carrier headquartered in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. It was established in 2004 as United Eagle Airlines and adopted the Chengdu Airlines name in 2010, giving it a clearer regional identity tied to its home city. The airline operates under the IATA code EU and ICAO code UEA. Its development has been closely associated with Chinese aviation and government-linked stakeholders, although travellers are more likely to encounter it as a practical domestic operator than as a globally marketed airline brand.

Chengdu is the airline's primary hub and its busiest departure point, supported by significant operations from Changsha, Liuzhou, Sanya and Lianyungang. Chengdu Airlines serves 28 destinations across one country on 74 routes, making its network entirely domestic. Notable cities include Beihai, Dalian, Guiyang, Hangzhou, Ji'an, Jinan and Jining. The network links major provincial centres with smaller regional markets, while routes involving Sanya provide access to one of China's leading leisure destinations.

The aircraft types recorded for Chengdu Airlines include the Airbus A319, a narrow-body jet suited to domestic and regional services. Cabin layouts and onboard inclusions can vary by aircraft and route, so passengers should review the conditions attached to their specific flight. Service is generally structured around short- and medium-haul travel rather than long-haul premium cabins. Economy is the principal product, while any higher-class seating, meals or additional benefits should be confirmed during booking.

Chengdu Airlines is not a member of Star Alliance, SkyTeam or Oneworld, so passengers should not assume that alliance-wide status benefits, lounge access or through-ticket protections will apply. Information about a dedicated frequent-flyer programme is not sufficiently clear for travellers to rely on without checking directly with the airline. Anyone hoping to earn miles should verify eligibility with Chengdu Airlines before travel, particularly when booking through an agency or when a flight involves another carrier.

A genuine strength of Chengdu Airlines is its coverage of domestic regional markets that may offer fewer nonstop choices on larger airlines. This can make it useful for direct journeys between provincial cities and for connections through Chengdu. The trade-off is that English-language information and international distribution may be less comprehensive than at China's largest carriers. Schedule changes, baggage inclusions and transfer arrangements therefore deserve careful review, especially when separate tickets or onward flights are involved.

Flying with Chengdu Airlines — what to expect

Domestic Network

Chengdu Airlines operates within China, with Chengdu serving as its main hub. Confirm the airport and terminal carefully because some Chinese cities are served by more than one airport.

Baggage Conditions

Baggage allowances can depend on the fare, cabin and sales channel. Check the allowance shown on your ticket rather than assuming that every economy fare includes the same checked baggage.

Online Check-in

Online and mobile check-in availability may vary by airport and itinerary. Arrive with enough time for counter check-in and identity-document verification if digital check-in is unavailable.

Regional Connections

The airline can be useful for nonstop travel between provincial cities with limited alternatives. Leave a generous connection window when combining its flights with separately ticketed services.

Onboard Service

Service is designed primarily for domestic short- and medium-haul flying. Meal, snack and seat-selection inclusions should be checked for the particular route and fare.

No frills but very efficient

EconomyChengdu - Shanghai

Check in easy, plane on time. Legroom negligible. Food non existent. In flight announcement from captain and crew in very good English. Legroom and ultra small seat spoiled what was otherwise pretty good.

Very Surprised!

EconomyGuangzhou - Chengdu

Was very surprised with this domestic airline. Onboard service was excellent and the crew could speak English. The flight was on time. The only negative was that my wife and I could not sit together.

Diverted Flight and Left In the Dark

EconomyZhengzhou - Chengdu
This flight from Zhengzhou to Chengdu ended up taking about 24 hours. The flight was diverted to Guiyang, which is about 500 kilometers from Chengdu. The diversion was due to Chengdu airport being closed due to the dreadful pollution the city suffers from. See moreSee less
