Sichuan Airlines

Sichuan Airlines was founded in 1986 and began commercial operations in 1988. Headquartered in Chengdu, it is a scheduled Chinese carrier whose ownership includes Sichuan Airlines Group and other domestic aviation shareholders. Its identity is closely associated with Sichuan province, although its network extends well beyond its home region across China and to selected overseas markets.

Chengdu is the airline’s primary hub and largest departure point, supported by substantial operations from Chongqing, Harbin, Kunming and Xian. Sichuan Airlines serves 78 destinations across 10 countries on 336 routes. Domestic flying forms the core of the network, connecting western China with major provincial capitals, business centres and leisure destinations, while international services provide links to parts of Asia and selected long-haul markets.

The recorded fleet comprises Airbus A319, A320, A321 and A330 aircraft. Narrow-body Airbus jets handle most domestic and regional sectors, while the larger A330 supports higher-capacity and longer-distance flights. Cabin products vary by aircraft and route, but the airline generally offers economy and business-class service, with meals, entertainment and seat features depending on flight duration and the specific aircraft configuration.

Sichuan Airlines is not a member of Star Alliance, SkyTeam or Oneworld. Its own loyalty programme is the Golden Panda Club, through which eligible travellers can earn and redeem mileage and receive benefits based on membership status. Partnership privileges and redemption options may be narrower than those available through a global alliance, so passengers should confirm eligibility before relying on reciprocal benefits.

A major strength is the breadth of its domestic coverage, particularly for journeys involving Chengdu, Chongqing and other cities in western China. The consistent use of Airbus aircraft can also make the fleet relatively familiar to repeat passengers. A practical challenge for international travellers is that English-language booking, customer-service and disruption information may be less comprehensive than on larger global carriers, especially away from major airports.
