About MEX

Overview

Benito Juárez International Airport sits roughly 5 kilometers east of Mexico City's historic center, inside the Venustiano Carranza borough at an elevation above 2,200 meters. It serves as Mexico's principal international gateway and one of Latin America's busiest hubs. The airport traces its civil aviation roots to the 1920s and was formally renamed in 2006 after reformist president Benito Juárez.

Terminals & runways

The airport operates two passenger terminals connected by an automated airside train. Terminal 1 is the older facility handling a mix of domestic and international traffic, while Terminal 2, opened in 2007, was built primarily for SkyTeam carriers. Two parallel runways, oriented roughly 05/23, handle nearly all movements under 24-hour operations, though slot constraints are well documented given the constrained urban site.

Airlines

MEX is the main hub for Aeroméxico and a focus city for Volaris and VivaAerobús, which together dominate domestic traffic. Long-haul service is provided by major North American, European, Asian, and Latin American carriers, including United, American, Delta, Air France, KLM, Lufthansa, Iberia, British Airways, ANA, and Turkish Airlines, linking the capital to global networks.
