Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport
About CTU
Overview
Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport sits approximately 16 kilometres southwest of central Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province in southwestern China. It serves as the primary international gateway for the Chengdu metropolitan area and the broader Sichuan region, handling a wide mix of domestic trunk routes and long-haul international services. The airport opened in its modern form in 1990, replacing earlier limited facilities.
Terminals & Runways
The airport operates two passenger terminals: Terminal 1 handles a mix of domestic and some international flights, while the larger Terminal 2 manages the bulk of international and high-volume domestic traffic. Two parallel runways orientated roughly east–west support operations. The airport runs on a near-continuous schedule, though some overnight restrictions apply. Capacity has been progressively expanded over the decades, and Chengdu Tianfu International Airport now shares regional traffic demand.
Airlines
Sichuan Airlines and Air China maintain significant hub or focus-city operations here. Chengdu Airlines is also based at Shuangliu. Major Chinese carriers including China Eastern and China Southern serve the airport extensively. Numerous international carriers connect Shuangliu to hubs across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and North America, reflecting Chengdu's status as a major inland commercial centre.
