Overview
Ngurah Rai International Airport sits approximately 13 kilometres south of Denpasar, on the southern tip of Bali, Indonesia. It serves as the primary international gateway to Bali and is one of the busiest airports in Indonesia. Originally opened in the 1930s and substantially modernised over subsequent decades, it handles a large volume of leisure and cultural tourism traffic year-round.
Terminals & Runways
The airport operates two main terminal buildings: a dedicated international terminal and a domestic terminal, both part of an integrated complex. A single runway oriented roughly east–west serves all operations. The airport functions on a near-continuous basis, though slot management applies during peak periods. A significant expansion and redevelopment programme has improved apron capacity and passenger facilities in recent years.
Airlines
Garuda Indonesia and its regional subsidiary Citilink use Ngurah Rai as a key operational base. Lion Air and Batik Air maintain strong domestic presences here. Major international carriers from Australia, East Asia, the Middle East, and Europe operate regular services, reflecting Bali's status as a prominent global leisure destination.
