About Air Ocean Airlines
Air Ocean Airlines was a privately owned Ukrainian start-up founded in 2020 and headquartered in Kyiv. It obtained its air operator’s certificate in October 2021 and began scheduled passenger service the following month. The carrier’s identity was closely tied to Ukrainian aviation manufacturing because it chose domestically produced Antonov aircraft for its operations. Its commercial flying career was exceptionally brief, ending with the suspension of services in January 2022.
The airline’s primary base was Kyiv International Airport, also known as Zhuliany. Its small domestic network connected Kyiv with cities including Lviv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia and Chernivtsi, while certain services linked regional cities without passing through the capital. Air Ocean also discussed future international flights to destinations such as Amman and Istanbul, but travellers should distinguish those plans from routes that were verifiably operated before the suspension.
Air Ocean operated two Antonov An-148-100E regional jets and had announced ambitions to expand the fleet. The twin-engine, high-wing aircraft were configured for approximately 75 passengers and suited relatively short domestic sectors. Air Ocean was essentially a single-cabin regional operator rather than a network airline offering multiple long-haul service classes. Travellers received a straightforward short-haul product appropriate to the airline’s limited route structure.
Air Ocean Airlines did not belong to Star Alliance, SkyTeam or Oneworld, and it had no widely established frequent-flyer programme. Its brief operating period also left little opportunity to develop extensive interline partnerships, reciprocal benefits or a mature connecting network. Passengers therefore could not expect alliance privileges such as through-ticketing across a global network, partner-lounge access or mileage earning with a major international airline group.
The airline’s distinctive strength was its use of Ukrainian-built aircraft on underserved domestic links, including direct regional services that could reduce the need for lengthy surface travel. Its overriding challenge was operational continuity: scheduled flights lasted only a matter of weeks before financial and leasing difficulties led to suspension. Air Ocean is no longer an active booking option, so old schedules and route listings should be treated as historical information rather than evidence of current service.
