Noi Bai International Airport
About Noi Bai International Airport
Overview
Noi Bai International Airport serves Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, located approximately 35 kilometres north of the city centre in Soc Son District. It functions as the primary international gateway for northern Vietnam and one of the country's two principal aviation hubs alongside Ho Chi Minh City's Tan Son Nhat. The airport opened in 1977 and has since undergone significant modernisation.
Terminals & Runways
The airport operates two passenger terminals. Terminal 1 handles domestic flights, while the newer Terminal 2, opened in 2015, manages international services and represents a substantial architectural upgrade. Two parallel runways serve the airfield, oriented roughly east–west. The airport operates around the clock and capacity expansion projects have been periodically discussed to accommodate growing regional demand.
Airlines
Vietnam Airlines uses Noi Bai as its primary hub, and budget carrier VietJet Air maintains a significant presence here as well. Bamboo Airways also operates from the airport. Major international carriers connecting Noi Bai include Cathay Pacific, Korean Air, Japan Airlines, Singapore Airlines, and several Chinese and European operators.
