Fly Arna

Fly Arna was established in 2021 as Armenia’s national low-cost airline and began commercial operations in July 2022. It was created as a joint venture between the Armenian National Interests Fund and Air Arabia Group, whose low-cost operating model shaped the carrier’s identity. Despite its national branding, Fly Arna was a commercial budget airline rather than a traditional full-service flag carrier. Financial and operational difficulties led it to suspend flights in January 2024, followed by liquidation proceedings.

The airline’s principal base was Zvartnots International Airport in Yerevan. Its network focused on short- and medium-haul services linking Armenia with Russia, Georgia, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Egypt and India. Destinations served at various times included Moscow, Sochi, Tbilisi, Tehran, Baghdad, Beirut, Sharm el-Sheikh and New Delhi. The schedule changed regularly during the airline’s brief operating life, and some routes were seasonal or discontinued before the suspension of all services.

Fly Arna operated Airbus A320-family aircraft configured in a single economy-class cabin. Its service followed the Air Arabia low-cost model: passengers received a basic seat with optional extras such as checked baggage, meals and preferred seating sold separately. This structure could produce competitive base fares, but the final price depended heavily on the selected fare bundle and additional services. Travellers therefore needed to compare the complete booking cost rather than the headline fare alone.

Fly Arna was not a member of Star Alliance, SkyTeam or Oneworld. It participated in AirRewards, the loyalty programme associated with Air Arabia, allowing eligible customers to earn and redeem points under the programme’s rules while Fly Arna was operating. The airline did not provide the broad partner benefits, through-ticketing network or reciprocal elite privileges normally associated with membership in a major global alliance. AirRewards continues through participating Air Arabia carriers, although Fly Arna flights are no longer available.

The carrier’s main strength was its attempt to expand affordable nonstop travel from Armenia to regional markets that were often served by relatively few airlines. Its compact Airbus fleet also provided a consistent onboard product. However, the airline operated for less than two years and proved financially unsustainable. Because flights remain suspended and the company entered liquidation, travellers should treat historical schedules, tickets, vouchers and Fly Arna-branded booking pages as inactive and use currently operating airlines for travel to or from Armenia.
