Vanuatu
Vanuatu is an archipelago of roughly 80 islands scattered across the South Pacific, where active volcanoes rise from dense jungle and turquoise lagoons cut between coral reefs. Life moves at a pace set by the land and sea — most people live in villages, speak one of over a hundred local languages, and grow much of what they eat.
About Vanuatu
Overview
Located in Melanesia, northeast of Australia and west of Fiji, Vanuatu comprises islands spread across more than 1,300 kilometres of ocean. Port Vila, on Efate Island, is the capital and main hub. Bislama, English, and French share official status, a legacy of the former Anglo-French condominium. The vatu is the national currency. Society is rooted in kastom — a collective term for indigenous customs, land rights, and social structures.
