Equatorial Guinea
Equatorial Guinea occupies a small but geographically split territory on the west coast of Central Africa: a mainland enclave wedged between Cameroon and Gabon, and a cluster of volcanic islands in the Gulf of Guinea. Oil wealth since the 1990s reshaped the capital skyline, yet dense rainforest and older rhythms of life persist beyond the city limits.
About Equatorial Guinea
Overview
The country consists of the mainland region of Río Muni and several islands, the largest being Bioko, where the capital Malabo sits on the rim of an ancient volcanic crater. Annobon, Corisco, and smaller islets complete the territory. Spanish and French are official languages alongside Portuguese. The Central African franc (CFA) is the currency, and the country shares strong cultural ties with both Bantu Central Africa and the Hispanic world.
