Cyprus
Cyprus sits in the eastern Mediterranean, closer to the coasts of Turkey and Lebanon than to mainland Europe, and that geography shapes everything — the light, the food, the layered history. Limestone mountains run through the interior, olive groves and citrus orchards cover the lower slopes, and the coastline alternates between rocky capes and sandy bays.
About Cyprus
Overview
Cyprus is an island republic in the northeastern corner of the Mediterranean Sea, bordered by water and politically divided since 1974 between the Republic of Cyprus in the south and the Turkish-administered north. The capital, Nicosia, is the only divided capital city in the world. Greek and Turkish are both official languages; the euro is used in the south, the Turkish lira in the north. The culture is predominantly Greek Cypriot in character, shaped by Byzantine, Venetian, and Ottoman histories.
