Overview
Tan Son Nhat International Airport sits approximately 8 kilometres northwest of central Ho Chi Minh City, in the Tan Binh District of southern Vietnam. It serves as the country's busiest airport and primary international gateway to the south, handling the majority of Vietnam's air traffic. Originally built during the French colonial period and expanded significantly during the Vietnam War era, it has operated in its current civilian form since 1975.
Terminals & Runways
The airport operates two passenger terminals: an international terminal and a domestic terminal handling separate traffic flows. Two parallel runways run on a roughly north-south orientation. The airport operates around the clock, with no full curfew. Chronic congestion has driven long-discussed plans for a new airport at Long Thanh, northeast of the city, which remains under construction.
Airlines
Vietnam Airlines and VietJet Air use Tan Son Nhat as a primary hub, while Bamboo Airways maintains a significant presence. Major international carriers from across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Oceania serve the airport, connecting Ho Chi Minh City to regional hubs including Bangkok, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Doha.
