Overview
Oslo Airport Gardermoen lies about 35 kilometers northeast of central Oslo, in the municipality of Ullensaker in eastern Norway. It serves as the country's primary international gateway and is one of the busiest airports in the Nordic region. The current facility opened in 1998, replacing the older Oslo Airport Fornebu, which had become constrained by its lakeside urban location.
Terminals & runways
The airport operates a single integrated terminal divided into domestic and international piers, expanded northward in 2017 to roughly double its capacity. Two parallel runways, both aligned 01/19, allow simultaneous independent operations. Gardermoen runs 24 hours a day, though a noise-sensitive nighttime regime restricts certain movements. The terminal is known for its restrained Scandinavian timber-and-glass architecture.
Airlines
Gardermoen is the main hub of Scandinavian Airlines and Norwegian Air Shuttle, and a key base for Widerøe's regional network. Flyr previously operated here before ceasing service. Major international carriers including KLM, Lufthansa, Air France, British Airways, Finnair, Turkish Airlines, Qatar Airways, and Emirates serve the airport, connecting Oslo to European and intercontinental destinations.
