El Dorado International Airport
About BOG
Overview
El Dorado International Airport is located approximately 15 kilometres northwest of central Bogotá, on the Sabana de Bogotá plateau at an elevation of around 2,600 metres above sea level. Serving the capital of Colombia, it functions as the country's primary international gateway and one of the busiest air-cargo hubs in Latin America. The airport opened in 1959, gradually replacing Techo Airport as the city's main facility.
Terminals & Runways
El Dorado operates two passenger terminals: Terminal 1, which handles the majority of international and domestic traffic, and Terminal 2, used primarily by low-cost and domestic carriers. The airport has two parallel runways oriented roughly east–west, suited to its high-altitude setting. It operates on a 24-hour basis. A major modernisation programme completed in the 2010s significantly expanded Terminal 1's capacity and infrastructure.
Airlines
Avianca uses El Dorado as its primary hub, maintaining an extensive domestic and international network from here. LATAM Colombia operates a significant focus-city presence. Major international carriers including American Airlines, Iberia, Air France, Lufthansa, and Copa Airlines maintain regular scheduled services, connecting Bogotá to hubs across the Americas and Europe.
