About Vaclav Havel Airport Prague

Overview

Václav Havel Airport Prague lies about 17 kilometres west of Prague city centre, in the Ruzyně district of the Czech Republic. It serves as the primary international gateway to the country and the largest airport in the Czech Republic. The airport opened in 1937, replacing the earlier Kbely aerodrome, and was renamed in 2012 in honour of the former Czech president.

Terminals & runways

The airport operates two main passenger terminals: Terminal 1 handles flights to non-Schengen destinations, while Terminal 2 serves Schengen routes. A separate Terminal 3 is used for general aviation and private flights. The airfield has two intersecting runways, oriented roughly north-south and east-west. The airport operates around the clock, though night movements are restricted, and ongoing modernisation projects continue to expand capacity.

Airlines

Czech Airlines historically used Prague as its main hub, and Smartwings now operates as the principal Czech-based carrier. The airport is also a focus city for several low-cost operators, including Ryanair and Wizz Air. Major European and international carriers serving Prague include Lufthansa, Air France, KLM, British Airways, Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Turkish Airlines.
