Murtala Muhammed International Airport
About LOS
Overview
Murtala Muhammed International Airport lies roughly 22 kilometres north of central Lagos, in southwest Nigeria. It serves as the country's primary international gateway and busiest aviation hub, handling the majority of Nigeria's transoceanic and continental traffic. The airport was renamed in 1976 in honour of former head of state Murtala Muhammed, and has operated in its current form since that era.
Terminals & Runways
The airport operates two main terminal complexes: the Murtala Muhammed Terminal 1, handling international flights, and the newer Murtala Muhammed Terminal 2, a privately managed facility serving domestic and some regional routes. Two runways serve the airfield, oriented broadly east–west. The airport operates around the clock. Ongoing infrastructure improvement works have periodically affected capacity in recent years.
Airlines
Air Peace is the dominant Nigerian carrier based here, operating both domestic and international services. Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways, British Airways, Lufthansa, Air France, Egypt Air, and Emirates are among the international carriers maintaining regular routes through Lagos, reflecting its role as West Africa's most connected aviation hub.
