About Dubai Airport
Overview
Dubai International Airport lies roughly 5 kilometres east of central Dubai, in the Al Garhoud district of the emirate. It serves as the primary international gateway to the United Arab Emirates and is widely regarded as one of the busiest airports in the world for international passenger traffic. The airport opened in 1960 with a compacted-sand runway and has since been expanded continuously into a major global hub.
Terminals & runways
The airport operates three passenger terminals. Terminal 1 handles most foreign carriers, Terminal 2 is used predominantly by regional and low-cost airlines from a separate site north of the field, and Terminal 3 is dedicated to the home carrier and its partners. Two parallel runways run roughly east-west, and the facility operates around the clock without a night curfew.
Airlines
Dubai International is the principal hub of Emirates, which bases its long-haul widebody fleet here, and of flydubai, the low-cost sister carrier focused on regional routes. Most major European, Asian, African and North American network carriers serve the airport, alongside Gulf neighbours, making it one of the most connected airports globally.
