Overview
Dublin Airport lies approximately 10 kilometres north of Dublin city centre in the village of Collinstown, County Fingal. It is Ireland's primary international gateway and by a considerable margin the country's busiest airport, handling the majority of national passenger traffic. The airport opened in 1940, with its original terminal — a curved Art Deco building by architect Desmond FitzGerald — still standing as a protected structure on the site.
Terminals & runways
The airport operates two passenger terminals. Terminal 1 is the older facility, used primarily for short-haul European and domestic services, while Terminal 2 opened in 2010 and handles most long-haul and transatlantic flights, including US preclearance operations. Two parallel runways serve the airfield on an east–west alignment, with the newer northern runway commissioned in 2022. The airport operates around the clock, subject to night-time movement restrictions.
Airlines
Dublin is the principal hub and headquarters base for Aer Lingus and serves as a major operating base for Ryanair. A wide spread of European, North American and Middle Eastern carriers also serve the airport, including British Airways, Lufthansa, KLM, Air France, Delta, United, American Airlines and Emirates.
