Overview
Copenhagen Airport, also known as Kastrup, lies approximately 8 kilometres southeast of central Copenhagen on the island of Amager, in eastern Denmark. It is the largest airport in the Nordic region and serves as Denmark's primary international gateway. The airport opened in 1925 as one of the first civil airports in Europe, and has been continuously expanded over the decades.
Terminals & runways
The airport operates three passenger terminals: Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 are linked and handle most scheduled traffic, while Terminal 1 serves domestic flights. Two main runways operate in a crossing configuration, oriented roughly east-west and northwest-southeast. The airport runs 24 hours a day, with night-time noise restrictions. Ongoing expansion projects continue to modernise piers and gate capacity.
Airlines
Copenhagen serves as the principal hub for Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) and is a focus city for several low-cost carriers, including Norwegian and easyJet. As a major Nordic gateway, it hosts a wide range of European and intercontinental airlines, with regular long-haul connections to North America, the Middle East and Asia operated by carriers such as Lufthansa, KLM, Emirates and others.
