Overview
Kempegowda International Airport sits approximately 40 kilometres north of central Bengaluru, in the Karnataka state of southern India. Opened in 2008, it replaced the older Hal Airport as the city's primary international gateway, serving one of India's fastest-growing metropolitan regions and its dominant technology and business hub.
Terminals & Runways
The airport operates two passenger terminals: Terminal 1 handles domestic flights for select carriers, while Terminal 2, an architecturally distinctive structure drawing on Karnataka's garden heritage, handles international and additional domestic traffic. Two runways serve the airport, oriented broadly east–west, enabling simultaneous operations. The airport operates around the clock and has undergone significant phased expansion to meet rising demand.
Airlines
IndiGo and Air India use Kempegowda as a major operating base, with IndiGo treating it as a significant focus city. Vistara, SpiceJet, and Akasa Air maintain strong domestic presences. International connectivity is provided by carriers including Emirates, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, British Airways, and Qatar Airways, linking Bengaluru to hubs across the Middle East, Europe, and Southeast Asia.
