About BER
Overview
Berlin Brandenburg Airport lies roughly 18 kilometers southeast of central Berlin, in the state of Brandenburg, Germany. It serves as the primary international gateway for the German capital and surrounding region. The airport opened in October 2020 after a prolonged construction period, replacing the former Tegel and Schönefeld airports, the latter of which was integrated into the new facility as Terminal 5.
Terminals & runways
The airport operates Terminal 1 as its main passenger building, with the smaller Terminal 2 used for additional capacity during peak periods. Two parallel runways oriented roughly east-west handle simultaneous operations. The airport functions largely around the clock, though night-flight restrictions limit movements during late hours. Several expansion measures have been considered to accommodate future growth.
Airlines
Lufthansa, easyJet, Eurowings and Ryanair maintain significant operations at the airport, with easyJet treating Berlin as one of its major continental bases. A wide range of European network carriers serve the airport, alongside long-haul operators connecting Berlin with destinations in the Middle East, North America and Asia. Low-cost and leisure airlines together account for a substantial share of traffic.
