Barcelona-El Prat Airport
About BCN
Overview
Barcelona-El Prat Josep Tarradellas Airport sits about 12 kilometers southwest of central Barcelona, in the Llobregat delta on the Catalan coast. It is Spain's second-busiest airport and the principal international gateway to Catalonia. Aviation activity at the site dates to 1916, with commercial operations developing through the 1920s and successive expansions reshaping the field over the following decades.
Terminals & runways
The airport operates two passenger terminals. T1, opened in 2009, handles most full-service and long-haul traffic, while T2 serves low-cost and regional carriers across its B and C piers. Three runways are in use: two parallel runways aligned roughly east-west on either side of the terminal area, and a shorter crosswind runway. The airport operates around the clock, with noise-related night restrictions.
Airlines
Vueling, headquartered in Barcelona, maintains its largest base at El Prat and is the dominant carrier. Ryanair and easyJet operate substantial focus-city operations, and Iberia provides extensive links to Madrid and Latin America. Long-haul service is offered by carriers including Level, American Airlines, Delta, United, Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Singapore Airlines, alongside numerous European network airlines.
