About Malawi Airlines
Malawian Airlines was established in 2013 as Malawi’s flag carrier and began operations after the collapse of the former Air Malawi. The company is majority-owned by the Government of Malawi, while Ethiopian Airlines holds a minority stake and provides strategic and operational support. Although some directory data uses the shortened name Malawi Airlines, the carrier normally presents itself publicly as Malawian Airlines.
The airline’s primary hub is Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe, with Chileka International Airport in Blantyre serving as its other important domestic gateway.
