About IHY Izmir Havayollari A.S.
IHY Izmir Havayollari A.S., commonly known as İzmir Hava Yolları or IZair, was established in 2005 by a group of İzmir businesspeople. It began operations on 14 June 2006 as a Turkish scheduled airline intended to strengthen direct air links from the country’s Aegean region. The company was ultimately dissolved and merged into Pegasus Airlines at the end of 2018.
The airline was headquartered at İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport, which served as the centre of its original network. Its scheduled services connected İzmir with domestic Turkish cities and selected international markets. In its later years, however, IZair functioned primarily as an operating partner within the Pegasus system rather than maintaining a clearly separate route network and commercial identity.
IZair used Airbus A319 and Airbus A320 family aircraft during its earlier operations. Its later fleet centred on Boeing 737-800 narrow-body aircraft operated for Pegasus Airlines. These aircraft were configured mainly for economy-oriented short- and medium-haul flying, with the service model, ticket conditions and optional extras increasingly aligned with those offered by Pegasus.
IZair did not belong to Star Alliance, SkyTeam or Oneworld. From 2012, its flights were temporarily marketed under the Air Berlin Turkey brand, a collaboration involving Air Berlin and Pegasus Airlines, but that arrangement ended in 2013. The airline did not maintain a distinct frequent-flyer programme that remains available to travellers today.
The airline’s İzmir base gave it a useful regional identity and helped broaden competition beyond Istanbul-centred flying. Its later integration with Pegasus also provided access to a larger sales and route network.
