About Hunnu Air

Hunnu Air is a Mongolian scheduled carrier founded in 2011 and headquartered in Ulaanbaatar. It began operations under the name Mongolian Airlines before adopting the Hunnu Air identity in 2013. The privately owned airline should not be confused with MIAT Mongolian Airlines, Mongolia’s state-owned flag carrier, despite the similarity of its former name.

Ulaanbaatar is Hunnu Air’s principal hub and the center of its route network. The airline serves seven destinations across two countries on 12 routes. Its network includes the Mongolian cities of Bayankhongor, Choibalsan, Dalanzadgad, Khovd and Moron, alongside international service between Ulaanbaatar and Hong Kong. Several domestic routes provide useful links across Mongolia’s widely separated regions.

Aircraft associated with Hunnu Air’s operations include the Airbus A319 and Fokker 50. The A319 is a narrow-body jet suited to higher-demand and international sectors, while the turboprop Fokker 50 can operate thinner domestic routes and airports with more limited infrastructure. Cabin configuration and service standards can vary by aircraft and route, so passengers should review the fare conditions and operating aircraft before departure.

Hunnu Air is not a member of Star Alliance, SkyTeam or Oneworld. It therefore does not provide the extensive reciprocal lounge, status and mileage benefits associated with a major global alliance. Travellers should confirm directly with the airline whether any current loyalty benefits, partner arrangements or account-based rewards apply to their booking, particularly because programme availability and conditions may change.

The airline’s main strength is its combination of domestic Mongolian connectivity and a limited international link, which can make it useful for itineraries beyond Ulaanbaatar. Its relatively small network and mixed aircraft operation can also present challenges: schedules may be less frequent than those of larger carriers, and disruptions can leave fewer same-day alternatives. Allowing generous connection time and reconfirming operational details is sensible.

Good to know

Flying with Hunnu Air — what to expect

Check Your Aircraft

Hunnu Air uses both jet and turboprop aircraft, so cabin layout, flight time and onboard comfort can differ by route. Review the operating aircraft close to departure.

Confirm Baggage Rules

Baggage allowances may depend on the fare, route and cabin booked. Check the allowance printed on your ticket instead of assuming that domestic and international limits are identical.

Allow Connection Time

The airline operates a compact network with limited frequencies on some routes. Build extra time into separate-ticket connections because alternative same-day flights may be scarce.

Recheck Your Schedule

Domestic services in Mongolia can be affected by operational conditions and weather. Confirm the departure time and airport information with the airline before travelling.

Expect Route Variation

Service levels can vary between short domestic sectors and the longer Hong Kong route. Food, refreshments and other onboard inclusions should be checked for the specific fare and flight.

Flight to the mountains!

EconomyUlaanbaatar - Bayan-Olgii Province
Flying in the Hunnu Air's ATR 72 provides excellent low altitude landscape observation. On this flight to Ulgii, a enroute stop was made at Ulaangom. Beautiful views of lakes and mountains along the way. Given the long flying time, the airline provided a light See moreSee less

Flight was perfectly punctual (very early morning!). Although small ATR 72 plane, the flight was smooth and well serviced. Nice views of the Gobi enroute. No complaints!

Comfortable, reliable and convenient domestic airline

EconomyUlaanbaatar - Bayan-Olgii Province
I travelled from UB to Olgii and back again last week. Hunnu Air contacted me a couple of weeks before I left to tell me that there was a change in the flight time. On the day of the flight, it said to check in 2 hours before- so I did. Everyone else was too, See moreSee less

Good flight

EconomyDalanzadgad - Ulaanbaatar
Very good flight on this domestic airline frojm Dalanzadgad to UB. Was nervous as it states that checked baggage must not exceed 10 kg. so I had to put all the heavier items into my carry-on. Plane was clean and served a light lunch with drinks for the short See moreSee less

Delayed

EconomyUlaanbaatar - Ulan-Ude
We flew on Aug 29. The flight delayed for 2-3 hours and we lost hours to enjoy Ulan Ude and ruined the plans we had. Flight attendants don't allow you change seats even the plane is half empty. Overall, I'm happy that they are providing flights between UB and See moreSee less
