About Harbour Air Seaplanes
Harbour Air began operations in 1982 with two seaplanes serving British Columbia’s forestry industry. It developed into a privately owned Canadian regional carrier and the central airline of the Harbour Air Group. The company trades as Harbour Air Seaplanes and has retained a distinctive identity built around short coastal flights, waterfront terminals and Canadian-designed utility aircraft.
Vancouver is the airline’s main operating centre, with important facilities at Vancouver Harbour and near Vancouver International Airport’s South Terminal. Scheduled services link Vancouver with Victoria, Nanaimo, Comox, Powell River, Sechelt, Salt Spring Island and other coastal destinations. The network also includes seasonal or route-dependent services to leisure markets such as Tofino and Whistler, plus an international connection to Seattle.
The fleet is primarily composed of de Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beavers, DHC-3 Single Otters and DHC-6 Twin Otters, aircraft well suited to short sectors and water operations. Harbour Air has also introduced wheeled services using Cessna Grand Caravan aircraft on selected airport routes. Cabins are small and generally arranged as a single class, without the separate business- and economy-class products found on larger airlines.
Harbour Air does not belong to Star Alliance, SkyTeam or Oneworld. Its former High Flyer Rewards programme stopped awarding points in August 2025, although existing points may remain redeemable until they expire. The airline now promotes the Harbour Air Club, a membership product offering travel-related benefits rather than a conventional mileage-based frequent-flyer programme with broad airline-partner earning and redemption.
Harbour Air’s principal strength is convenience: several routes connect central waterfront terminals and can avoid lengthy journeys to large commercial airports. Flights also provide expansive coastal views and relatively short travel times. The trade-off is that small-aircraft operations have tighter baggage constraints and are more exposed to poor visibility, wind and changing marine weather, so travellers should allow flexibility when making onward connections.
