About Breeze Airways
Breeze Airways is a privately held U.S. low-cost carrier founded by aviation entrepreneur David Neeleman, whose previous airline ventures include JetBlue and Azul. The company began scheduled passenger service in May 2021. Breeze was conceived as a digitally focused airline connecting city pairs that often lack nonstop service, giving it a distinct identity within the competitive U.S. domestic market.
Breeze operates a point-to-point network rather than a conventional hub-and-spoke system, so it does not designate one airport as its primary hub. Charleston, Providence, Hartford, Norfolk and Tampa are among its more important operating bases. The fleet includes Airbus A220-300 aircraft alongside Embraer E190 and E195 regional jets. The A220 is central to Breeze's longer-range growth, offering two-by-three economy seating and, on selected configurations, larger reclining seats at the front. Breeze sells fare bundles with differing flexibility, baggage and seating benefits rather than following a traditional full-service cabin model. Breeze does not belong to Star Alliance, SkyTeam or Oneworld, and it has no broad interline network comparable with those of major global carriers. Its loyalty programme is Breezy Rewards, through which members earn BreezePoints for eligible purchases and can redeem them toward Breeze flights and related charges. The programme is designed principally for travel within Breeze's own network rather than for earning benefits across partner airlines.
Breeze's main strength is its emphasis on nonstop links between secondary or underserved markets, which can eliminate connections through crowded major hubs. Its newer A220s also provide a relatively comfortable experience for a low-cost carrier. The trade-off is that many routes have limited weekly frequencies, making disruption recovery and schedule changes less flexible than on airlines operating several flights a day.
