Asian Wings Airways was a privately owned Myanmar airline established in 2010 and launched scheduled services on 27 January 2011. It traded under the Asian Wings name and used the IATA code YJ, although its correct ICAO designator was AWM rather than the AMV code supplied in some records. AMV belongs to Egypt-based AMC Airlines, which was a separate company with no connection to Asian Wings.
The airline was based at Yangon International Airport and concentrated on domestic flying within Myanmar. Its network connected Yangon with important commercial centres, tourist gateways and remote regional communities, including Mandalay, Heho, Myitkyina, Kyaingtong, Tachileik and Bhamo. Published schedules changed over time, with some flights operating as multi-stop services suited to Myanmar's dispersed regional market rather than as simple nonstop links.
Asian Wings relied principally on ATR 72-500 turboprops, aircraft well suited to short sectors and airports with comparatively limited infrastructure. It also operated an Airbus A321 for a period, although the ATR became the defining aircraft in its later fleet.
