About Akasa Air
Akasa Air is a privately owned Indian low-cost airline established in 2021 and operated by SNV Aviation Private Limited. Commercial services began in August 2022, initially linking Mumbai and Ahmedabad. The carrier uses the Akasa Air brand and positions itself as a value-focused alternative in India’s highly competitive aviation market, selling unbundled fares with optional extras.
Mumbai is Akasa Air’s principal operating base, while Bengaluru and other major Indian airports support substantial parts of its schedule. The network connects large metropolitan centres with leisure destinations and regional business markets across India. International expansion began in 2024, adding short-haul services from India to destinations in the Gulf and, subsequently, selected points elsewhere in Asia.
Akasa Air operates an all-Boeing 737 MAX fleet, principally comprising 737 MAX 8 and higher-density 737 MAX 8-200 aircraft. The common fleet family is intended to simplify training, maintenance and operations. Aircraft have a single economy-class cabin rather than a separate business class, although travellers can purchase preferred seating, meals, additional baggage and other optional services.
The airline is not a member of Star Alliance, SkyTeam or Oneworld, and its point-to-point low-cost model does not depend on a large alliance connection system. Akasa Air does not currently have a conventional mileage-based frequent-flyer programme. Its digital channels instead focus on direct bookings, trip management and the sale of fare bundles and ancillary products.
A notable strength is the relatively young fleet, which provides a consistent hard product across most services. However, the airline’s low-cost structure means the lowest advertised fare may exclude checked baggage, advance seat selection, meals or flexible changes. Its network and frequencies are also less extensive than those of India’s largest carriers, so alternative departure times can be limited on some routes.
