About Air Nostrum
Air Nostrum was founded in Valencia in 1994 and began scheduled flying later that year. Privately funded and legally distinct from Iberia, the Spanish regional carrier has operated under an exclusive franchise as Iberia Regional Air Nostrum since 1997. Its role combines scheduled regional flying, public-service routes and services in markets where demand is better suited to smaller aircraft.
Madrid-Barajas is the principal connecting hub for its Iberia-branded network, while Valencia remains the airline's headquarters and an important operating base. Air Nostrum links regional cities across mainland Spain, the Balearic Islands and other parts of Europe and North Africa. Its flights also feed Iberia's medium- and long-haul services at Madrid, allowing through-ticketed connections beyond Air Nostrum's own network.
The fleet is built around regional aircraft, including Bombardier CRJ1000 and CRJ200 jets and ATR 72-600 turboprops. These types are suited to thinner routes and airports that cannot consistently support larger mainline aircraft. Flights are sold within Iberia's Economy and Business product structure, although cabin layouts, storage space and onboard service are necessarily more compact than aboard Iberia's larger aircraft.
Air Nostrum is not independently listed as a member of a global airline alliance, but its Iberia franchise connects passengers to Iberia and the wider Oneworld network. Eligible flights can earn Avios and Elite Points through Iberia Plus, subject to the fare and ticket conditions. Iberia Plus benefits may also apply when the traveller's status and itinerary qualify.
A major strength is the airline's ability to provide direct links from smaller Spanish cities and maintain lower-demand regional connections. The trade-off is that schedules can be seasonal and regional aircraft offer limited overhead-bin space, particularly on the smallest CRJ services. Disruptions may also leave fewer same-day alternatives than passengers would find on heavily served mainline routes.
